Jacob (Thomas) Walton and Martha married in New Jersey and moved to Lincoln between 1870 and 1880. They had a total of nine children, six of whom died of diphtheria in 1882. Edwin, Frank, and Martha survived the diphtheria outbreak. Mr. and Mrs. Walton homesteaded in the area which is now College View, and accumulated wealth over time. They owned several properties in and around Lincoln.

Jacob (Thomas) Walton was born in New York on April 7, 1835. He was married to Martha and had nine children, six of whom died in 1882 from diphtheria. After the death of his first wife, Jacob married Barbara Herr, a married which shortly ended in divorce. Jacob died July 30, 1908. Jacob remarried in 1895. He was married for only a short time to a Miss Barbara Herr. Their divorce made headlines due to Mr. Walton's wealth and allegations of abuse and adultery. Jacob was later proclaimed insane.

Martha A. Walton was born in New Jersey in 1835. She married Thomas Walton, and they moved to Lincoln. Six of their nine children died in 1882 from diphtheria. Martha was involved in a stove fire in 1893. She passed away a few days afterwards from her injuries. Martha died November 23, 1893.

Martha R. Walton was born February 2, 1877. She graduated from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Pi sorority. Martha was known as a vocalist and studied abroad as well as performed at events around Lincoln, Nebraska. She died May 17, 1931. Martha, upon hearing of Edwin's suicide, fell into a diabetic coma from which she did not recover.

Lewis O. Walton was born January 18, 1873. He died of diphtheria March 10, 1882.

John L. Walton was born September 11, 1864, in New Jersey. He died of diphtheria April 30, 1882.

Harriet (Hattie) Walton was born in Greenwich, New Jersey, on July 20, 1870. She died of diphtheria January 15, 1882.

Grant was born March 15, 1875. He died of diphtheria February 11, 1882.

Franklin (Frank) T. Walton was born in New Jersey on May 7, 1868. He moved to Lincoln with his family, and eventually became a money lender. Unfortunately, Frank provided the financing for his father's divorce trial, and upon believing he would lose this money, he committed suicide. Frank killed himself May 7, 1896.

Edwin Ellsworth Walton as born in Greenwich, New Jersey, September 25, 1861. Ed moved to Lincoln with his family. He later went on to manage properties in the Lincoln area, taking over guardianship of his father's land during his father's commitment to the hospital and upon his death. Ed committed suicide May 15, 1931.
