We had lunch with Joe, Sally and Kathy at the Battle Creek Community Center last Friday. Joe told us about his service in Vietnam (See more)and North China (18 months overseas). Tom was born while he was gone. He returned when Tom was about a year. Sally was very alert has he was talking about memories.
Mom and I visited Aunt Kathy last week and I shared the website with her on my iphone. As we were talking about memories, (See more)she told me that Chic and her spent their honeymoon at the Pathfinder in Fremont. It was a special memory - 1955!
With the large M's Pub fire in the old Market in downtown Omaha recently, Scott and I were reminiscing about the Fremont Pathfinder Hotel 40 (See more)years ago in Fremont. Scott would have been 5 years old and I was 13 years old. Scott remembers that he was home with Jill probably babysitting him. They hear a "knock" and went to the front door but no one was there. I was painting with Mom and Dad at a new home in Washington Heights. We thought two trains hit together probably connecting. With many trains around Fremont, we were not concerned. The "knock" or "bump" was a gas main break and explosion on the corner of the Pathfinder Hotel downtown. I don't recall who saw Dad's van in the driveway and stopped to pick him up as it was a multiple alarm fire and all manpower was required. Mom and I continued to work and I do not following the event. I remember that Dad did not come home that night. Many were killed and it was significant fire for the Fremont community. I remember my dentist, was called in to identify the dead with dental records and took some of the first pictures. http://www3.gendisasters.com/nebraska/6883/fremont-ne-hotel-explosion-caused-gas-jan-1976
