PLACE OF REST
Brief History Photo

MOM You instilled in us as children that, “all things work together for those that love the Lord” … and “one should always leave an inheritance for your children.” Job well done! You left us rich memories and character … you taught us selflessness and honor. You showed us the greatest gift of them all and that is how to love. Take your rest in Glory MOM for your work here is done … and your battle is now won. Worry not about dad (pops), for you left him in great hands! Thank you for setting the bar high for us and your grandchildren-and leaving such a great legacy! Until we meet again, your children Kym, Karen and Antonio.

STORY

Margie Dean Holly, daughter of the late James A. Williams and Geneva Williams was born April 20, 1941 in Farmville North Carolina. She had six sisters and one brother — Vernell, Ruby, Lula Lee, Ann Barbara, Doris and James Angelo also known as “bruh.”

Margie affectionately known as “Mot,” “Marge,” “Aunt Marge,” “Mama Holly, “Ms. Holly,” “Sgt. Holly,” “Grandma,” or “Mom,” laid down to rest in God’s heavenly arms on Thursday, July 4, 2013.

Margie grew to to love the Lord at an early age and her devotion and thirst for the World of God only grew as she matured into an adult.

Margie received her early education in North Carolina and earned a high school diploma from HB Suggs in Farmville, North Carolina.

Although her roots were in North Carolina – Margie realized that her dreams and aspirations were far bigger than that of the small town, so she packed up and moved to New York. It didn’t take long for her to yet again “spin” the bottle of life – however this time it led to her place of destiny – Chicago, Illinois.

Although Chicago proved to be a big city, it was not bigger than Margie's drive and determination of a better life and her dreams to start a family.

The love story truly begins here -- for in 1961, Marge met the man of her dreams that she would soon thereafter call her husband -- Maurice G. Holly. they were joined in holy materimony on March 3, 1965. Maurice claims that her intelligence and beauty was appealing, yet her gleaming smile and heart of gold proved to be the "biggest attraction!" During this union Marge and Maurice were blessed to raise three amazing children Karen, Antonio, and Kimberly (Kym).

As to think this would be challenging enough -- Marge began to embark on her path to higher education. With the support of her loving husband she returned to school and did

not cease until she earned a Master Degree from Northeastern Illinois University -- and soon after obtained her Illinois Teaching Certification, specializing in English.

In 1975 Margie had an opportunity to make a career change and although her love for the classroom was unending, she decided to begin a career in corrections where she began working for Stateville Correctional Center, in Joliet. Durng this time Margie also worked as a substitute teacher for Chicago Public Schools and the Thornton Township School District 205. Education was the "pillar" of the Holly household therefore during her 34 years of service Marge worked tirelessly with one goal in mind -- affording her children and grandchildren the opportunity to attend college. Marge worked through the ranks and joined her husband in retirement as a Correctional Sergeant in December 2011.

Anyone that know "Ms. Holly" that she considered no one a stranger. Margie acquired a friend wherever she went and supported all family members in their successes from attending college football games -- to graduate degree graduations! She would always greet you with a hug and often leave you with encouraging words or "very strong" advice. (smile) She was a Proverbs 31: 10 woman ... for she loved, honored and provided for her family. She was the true "Elmer's Glue" of the family, near or far. So whether it was an hour long phone call, a cross-country road trip to someone's special life event -- or just a donation to the family reunion fund, she taught us all what it really meant to be family, blood or not!

If you really know Marge, you knew she enjoyed shopping for "gently used" items and antiques -- so much that she embarked in becoming an entrepreneur by opening her own resale shop.

You would also know that she loved "family gatherings" and would not let you live down the guilt if you missed one. Marge was most famous for her Christmas and New Year's Eve "tree trimming" ... and "tree take-down" parties -- providing to us all there is never an EXCUSE "not" to have a celebration.

During her recent retirement she finally had time to enjoy life -- where she made it her business to help raise her grandchildren, read, studied the Word of God and spend time with her lifetime sweetheart -- Maurice. Additionally, she became active at the Israel Church of God, where she met and fellowshipped with many "new" faithful friends and church associates.

Because "everyone" was considered family Marge's list of loved ones is unending and far too long to name. Margie leaves an amazing legacy to carry on to her devoted and loving husband of over 50 years, Maurice Holly; three children Karen (Randy), Antonio (Audrey), Kimberly; grandchildren, Justin (Tiffany), Holly, Brandon, Brittany, Tynan, Mya and Jasmine, great-grandchildren, Justin, Jr., Ta'Miah, Ta'Hiri and Ta'Lila, sister: Vernell (Willie), nieces, Sharon, Donna, Gwen and Sandra, Jessica, Danielle, Vanessa, Mercedes, Tonya, Rhonda, Roseline, Rodney, Raynell, Cedric, Dan, Kent, Roger and Mitchell, brother-in-laws, Chuck and Victor (Brenda); nieces/nephews she affectionately called her "own children" Lori (Chuck), Chuck Jr. (Daphne), Jim and Darwin in addition to a host of life long devoted friends, neighbors and associates.

Margie's smile will forever live in our minds and her spirit will live in our hearts forever. She will be missed, but never forgotten because everyone who has encountered her has a little bit of her -- in him or her. As Margie returns home to take her rightful place ineternity imagine her saying her most endearing phrase "if you don't know nothing else ... know that you're loved."
